In order to research indoor thermal environment and human thermal adaptation in severe cold zone in winter, conducts a field study including indoor thermal environment, human thermal sensation and thermal comfort from the late autumn to the early spring in the university dormitories in Harbin. The results show that the past indoor and outdoor thermal experiences have influence on human thermal adaptation. In the late autumn and early-heating period, human thermal adaptation is mainly affected by the outdoor climate. But during the mid-heating period, human thermal adaptation is mainly affected by indoor thermal environment. It is not appropriate to set a high indoor temperature at early-heating period, and the indoor temperature should be improved gradually because of human adaptation to a cool environment in autumn. People will release heat through opening windows if the indoor temperature is too high in mid and late heating periods, which causes more energy waste.
